Hotel tour

I unpacked, got down to the lobby and met up with the group for the 4 PM tour of the hotel. The chaos of people in the lobby mixed with her accent made it difficult to hear. These tours for me are either hit or miss, some are wonderful some next time I read the book. She tried hard and I enjoyed her love of the hotel. She gave a good overview of the place, the Spanish tiles and mahogany ceiling in the lobby, elevators, and even the brass mail box made in Rochester NY.

She took us up stairs to give us a overview of the famous people who stayed at the hotel. She made a special stop at the Meyer Lansky suite with a large balcony over looking the water. Onto the Presidential Suite where heads of state like Winston Churchill stayed during his visit. However at both stops she did not take us into the rooms. The mob suite was being cleaned and apparently no one goes into the President's suite. Needless to say, I was disappointed.

The tour continued outside where it started to get too political for my tastes. There was a underground bunker, and various places where cannon and a staged map room with newspaper articles of the Cuban missile crisis on the walls. This did not interest me so I drifted away from the group with a different intention. I figured with a small bribe I could get into the mob suite. How right I was! I toured the suite alone and got to see its best feature the enormous balcony overlooking the water. I could not stay long so I snapped some photos and left. I mean it was a nice suite but the balcony made it. It was a big living room, flanked by two big bedrooms (regular size hotel rooms), bathroom was nice in marble but nothing I have not seen before. I have to try to bribe my way into the Presidential Suite. Maybe, that is much better.
