Forget jet travel this is a small twin propeller plane for puddle jumping to the Island. The seats are first come first serve. I was first in line and after the gate person checking my ticket and electronically my bag, I walked outdoors onto the Tarmac the first person boarding to Havana. I grabbed my hat as I noticed was how windy it was outside. I have taken twin propeller planes before and one thing you can count on is that they are very noisy. Good thing I brought the Bose noise canceling headphones so between that and watching some shows downloaded the hour and half flight was no problem.
The first thing I noticed when I landed was there were NO soldiers in uniform with
guns. I have been to democracies and they have had soldiers at the airport with weapons ready. The next thing was that the guy ride I paid for never showed up. Oh well, This is the business I've chosen, so I let it go. I met this guy on the plane from D.C. and he spoke Spanish. He asked if he could catch a cab with me, I said sure to him and another guy from Holland. The cab cost us 10 bucks each. I am sure because of his Spanish skills. The final thing I noticed was that the road from the airport was much better than Belize or Guatemala roads. The road took us by old, dilapidated mansions, art deco buildings in a bad need of a paint job, and a beautiful palm tree studded boulevard that led up and into the historic Hotel Nacional. I felt like I landed on a Hollywood movie set.
I will create several posts of the Hotel Nacional because like the great Pyramids or Tikal, the Hotel is a destination unto itself.

The plane to Cuba linda (beautiful Cuba)
